via Daily Prompt: Murmuration

mind in a bottle

A Zen Koan(A kōan (公案) is a story, dialogue, question, or statement, which is used in Zen practice to provoke the “great doubt” and test a student’s progress in Zen practice.)-Wikipedia….

A disciple was asked by a Zen Master to bring the goose out of the bottle…provided the bottle is not broken nor is the goose killed and dissected and brought out…

Every time the disciple thought he had an answer, and rushed to the master…all that he received was a tight slap…

One fine day, realization dawned on him… This time the master approached the disciple to check on him… and the disciple replied… the Goose is out…It was never in…

Similarly with the human consciousness….

We are conditioned to think of our mind….its murmurations as enclosed within the bottle…its our complete identification with the mind…and one can never really be free…hence this constant feeling of confinement and restlessness

The point is we never really are within the bottle in the first place… We have always been a watcher…watching the mind and its entrapments from a distance. This is the only way to be free… truly free…in Awareness….
